New research vessel
The Hitzler shipyard in Lauenburg will build the "Ludwig Prandtl II" to replace its namesake. The Helmholtz Centre Hereon in Geesthacht is the client for the 15 million euro new build, which is being financed by the federal government. The new vessel is 29.90 metres long, eight metres wide and only 1.6 metres deep. The crew will consist of two or three people. There will also be space for up to twelve researchers on board. They will have 47 square metres of laboratory space and a 70 square metre work deck at their disposal.
