To mark its 120th birthday last year, the island nation's navy treated itself to two Leonardo AW159 Wildcat ASW helicopters, which have now been ceremonially put into service at the Danielo Atienza airbase near Manila. Of the eight Lockheed P-3C Orion aircraft that were previously handed over to the Pakistani Navy free of charge by the USA 15 years ago and subsequently modernised, six at best should still be airworthy today after two aircraft were lost in a terrorist attack on the Mehran airfield in Karachi in 2011. On 23 October, India released one of its 16 KH-35 Uran missiles from the corvette Prabal (Veer class, Tarantul I) and sank a decommissioned frigate at maximum range (75 miles).
