Crew change in the South Atlantic

On 1 February 2021, Lufthansa is launching the longest passenger flight in its history. At the same time, it is one of the most unusual flights the airline has ever carried out. On behalf of the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) in Bremerhaven, the Lufthansa Group's most sustainable aircraft, an Airbus A350-900, will fly 13,700 kilometres non-stop from Hamburg to Mount Pleasant on the Falkland Islands.

Increase in piracy

Figures from the International Maritime Bureau (IMB), an organisational unit of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), show an increase in piracy attacks and armed robberies in 2020. Compared to 2019 with 162 pirate attacks, the number rose to 195 in 2020. The IMB Piracy Reporting Centre (PRC) reports that three ships were hijacked and 11 ships were fired upon, 20 attempted attacks were successfully repelled and 161 ships were boarded. Digital classroom for the Sea Lion

The digital Asterion classroom is used to train maintenance personnel for the new Naval Transport Helicopter (NTH) NH90 NTH Sea Lion. The system includes a soft panel cockpit with touchscreen instrument displays, a mission console trainer required for naval helicopter training, Asterion software, desktop hardware and tablets.
