Mortar at sea?

Swedish armed forces award contract for amphibious fire support The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has commissioned Swedish shipbuilder Swede Ship Marine AB to supply eight "seaworthy artillery platforms" for the amphibious battalion in Stockholm and Gothenburg, according to a press release issued by FMV on 17 May 2023. The ships ordered are essentially light patrol boats equipped with stabilised, automatic mortar systems. Press Release Conference / Parliamentary Evening - German Nautical Association in Berlin

Shipping is one of the most important sectors for Germany as a centre of business and logistics. However, a storm has risen over the industry, which is suffering from a blatant shortage of young talent, as became clear yesterday at a high-level conference in Berlin. In addition to the very diverse initiatives from the shipping industry itself, politicians are also called upon to counteract this dangerous trend if Germany is to remain an important shipping location in the future, benefiting from the extensive expertise of its many thousands of employees in international competition. The key word: secondary market. The great importance of nautical-technical expertise for other professions is still generally recognised far too rarely. "It...

The aim is to simulate, recognise and defend against cyber attacks on ships. Ships as potential targets Cyberattacks on industry and critical infrastructures are on the rise worldwide. Ships, which transport billions of tonnes of goods around the world every year, are also potential targets as part of global supply chains. Sustainable ship recycling - an opportunity for Germany?

DNV press release In its 2021-2025 coalition agreement, the current German government writes: "We are strengthening shipbuilding across the entire value chain, including ship recycling, as the industrial core in Germany." The Deutsche Nautische Verein von 1868 e. V. (DNV) and the Maritime Cluster Norddeutschland e. V. (MCN) very much welcome this statement, as we see considerable challenges in the strengthening of the entire value chain proclaimed by the federal government - in particular the establishment of sustainable ship recycling - in Germany, from which an urgent need for action can be derived. As an important shipping location with the great significance of its ports for the flow of goods in an export-orientated economy, Germany is...
