ATLAS ELEKTRONIK supplies submarine hunting module for F126 frigate

ATLAS ELEKTRONIK will supply the sub-hunting modules for the F126 frigate, according to a press release dated 3 November 2022. The Bremen-based company was commissioned by Thales Netherlands, which is acting as the sensor supplier and integrator for the project. The contract was signed on 1 September. The German naval systems house is to supply two modules for the frigates' on-board ASW operations and provide a shore-based system for training. According to the press release, the mission modules will enable the F126 to carry out long-range submarine hunting operations. With the modular approach, the units of the F126 frigate can be equipped to suit the situation and mission. The modules are not ship-specific, i.e. they could...

Siemens Energy: Fuel cell also for autonomous underwater vehicles

Siemens Energy used this year's EuroNaval to present the new BZM evo fuel cell module in a demonstrator for autonomous underwater vehicles. This is the fourth generation of such a system, which saves almost 50 per cent in volume compared to its predecessors with a 15 per cent increase in performance. Further optimisations have been achieved by reducing weight and hydrogen consumption. The weight of the module is around 200 kilograms. Earlier versions weighed more than 600 kilograms. BZM evo can generate up to 60 kW of power. The size of the lithium-ion battery is said to be 11 kWh. According to the company, the module can be installed in less than...

Frigate "Sachsen" tests high-energy laser weapon

Update from 27.10.2022 In August 2022, the Bundeswehr deployed a high-energy laser as a weapon from a German warship for the first time in its history: During system testing, the frigate "Sachsen" successfully fought drones at close and close range in the Putlos restricted area on 30 August 2022. Testing of this new weapon will continue until mid-2023. In the following test campaigns, the demonstrator will be challenged in more complex scenarios in order to derive and implement the need for action on the way to a fully functional, operational laser weapon. Original article from 12.07.2022 After participating in BALTOPS22, the frigate FGS Sachsen (F 219, type ship of the F124 class) had the following on 17....

German Navy procures RAM Block 2B

On 27 October 2022, RAMSYS (RAM-System GmbH, Munich) was awarded a procurement contract for 600 state-of-the-art Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) Block 2B guided missiles (LFK) for the German Navy. The new LFKs will be delivered to the navy from 2024. Clever seeker head A newly developed infrared seeker head and the introduction of a data exchange (missile-to-missile link) between several RAM Block 2Bs in a salvo significantly increase the combat value of the weapon system. Together with the more powerful radar seeker, the outstanding accuracy of the highly agile RAM LFK against current and future conventional and asymmetric threats is improved, thus strengthening the German Navy's ability to assert itself. Who invented it? The development was realised by RAMSYS...

Israeli torpedo defence solution for surface units

DSIT Solutions Ltd (DSIT), a subsidiary of RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems Ltd and the Israeli provider of underwater defence technology for 30 years, presented its torpedo defence system for surface vessels at EuroNaval 2022. Its components, a hull sensor in two variants, a control suite and the RAFAEL torpedo defence system as a combination of soft and hard-kill solution can be installed on a large number of surface platforms and integrated into the existing command and weapon deployment systems. In the course of a torpedo attack, the target has little time to recognise the threat and initiate effective countermeasures. In addition, the underwater signalling environment makes reliable classification difficult due to high false alarm rates....
