Germany participates in Operation IRINI with the "Bonn"

On 1 September 2021, the task force provider left its home base in Wilhelmshaven to join Operation IRINI as part of the European Union Naval Forces Mediterranean (EUNAFVOR MED). The 220 soldiers on board include military police and an 11-strong boarding team from the sea battalion in Eckernförde. Two Sea Lynx helicopters will support the situation picture. A legal advisor from the Federal Ministry of Defence will contribute to the certainty of action in the event of an emergency. The team in Bonn's operational hospital will be reinforced by members of the German Air Force. The mandate for the EU-led crisis management operation was extended by the German Bundestag until 30 April 2022. The decision of 21 April...

Sea Lynx: 40 years in service

.....and suddenly the sky was black On 8 September 1981, the pre-command was set up, three weeks later the 3rd Flying & Technical Squadron Mk88. Or as it is correctly called today: Westland Sea Lynx Mk 88a. On 30 August, the naval aviators attracted a lot of attention. An "8-ship" formation flew over the partners in Wilhelmshaven. We are not making a recommendation to vote on behalf of the editorial team, nor do we wish to pass judgement on the quality of the content. Instead, we would like to provide our readers with an initial overview: Is there a maritime awareness in the positioning of the respective party and how is it anchored? In this way, we want to encourage further debate and discussion. The programmes are examined for maritime content, and as always...

Flood relief ! Lorry urgently needed!

The Grafschaft / Ringen local branch of the German Red Cross urgently needs a lorry! The 7.5 tonne lorry used so far is irreparably damaged. A new lorry is urgently needed in order to be able to continue providing flood relief. We are looking for a 7.5 tonne truck - model and brand do not matter. It should not be older than 5 years and have a maximum odometer reading of 70,000 kilometres. Tarpaulin, luggage and equipment are also irrelevant. The colour doesn't matter either, as it will be covered with foil. However, white or light grey would be ideal. The local association would like to buy a vehicle and would like help with a favourable offer. Please contact...

Practical relevance is the key to success

"Train - Educate - Shape" and "Serving and Leading in Democracy" are proven training principles at the Mürwik Naval Academy. Training and education at the Naval Academy has always been aimed at preparing the next generation of naval leaders for the demanding tasks as military superiors. In line with the aforementioned principles, it is important to shape the maritime character of our junior officers in the troop service and the specialised military service, to bind them to our navy and simply to inspire them for the profession of naval officer. We must colour their hearts deep blue. The Mürwik Naval Academy is committed to the almost timeless demand that the thinking of every naval officer...
