The sailing training ship Juan Sebastian Elcano returned to its home port of Cadiz in mid-June from its 93rd training voyage abroad and eleventh circumnavigation. Due to the worsening coronavirus situation in the country, the ship arrived a month earlier than planned. As a traditional welcome to the crew, the Spanish King Felipe VI spent the last night on board before entering the harbour - at anchor in the Gulf of Cadiz. For ten months, the crew (200) and cadet crew (20) worked and lived exclusively on board the four-masted square-rigged schooner because no shore leave was allowed due to the strictest precautionary measures against infection with the virus.
