Rescue is still possible

The United Nations wants to protect the marine habitat from pollution and overexploitation with the marine conservation agreement. At least 60 states must have ratified the treaty by 2025. Since the annual General Assembly of Heads of State and Government at the end of September, the marine conservation agreement has been open for signature at the United Nations in New York. Two members of the German government euphorically praised the agreement after it was signed. During the UN General Assembly, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said that it was a glimmer of hope for the oceans, the people and also for the United Nations. Mines, missiles and explosive boats

The war in Ukraine, which began with Russia's invasion in 2022, is primarily a land war. Nevertheless, it is worth taking a look at its maritime aspects. There is also a risk that Russia and China in particular could try to exploit the easier access to the Arctic...

Seven of the eight countries bordering the Baltic Sea are members of the Western defence alliance. However, self-assurance regarding NATO dominance is misplaced. In the wake of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, Finland and Sweden jointly applied for NATO membership in 2022. Both countries were previously NATO partners with close ties to the alliance, but remained outside the regular treaty structures. Access marineforum digital+ Already a registered user? The same procedure as every year?

Dinner for two! A British and a German officer call for more participation in the dialogue. The publication of the declaration of intent by the Inspector of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jan C. Kaack, sparked a discussion between two officers. With the intention of promoting the exchange of opinions and "forcing" young officers into public dialogue, they are making a start by writing down this discussion and hope that many will follow.
