New hall for marine projects: NVL Group invests in the Wolgast site

The north German NVL Group (Naval Vessels Luerssen) issued a press release at the weekend announcing the modernisation of its shipyard infrastructure at the Wolgast site. An investment of around 15 million euros in a dock shelter, for which the foundation stone has just been laid, will enable shipbuilding to be carried out regardless of the weather in future and set modern standards in environmental protection and occupational safety. EuroNaval: BAE Systems with modularity to success - Adaptable Strike Frigate

BAE Systems used EuroNaval to present the concept of an "adaptable" frigate for the first time. Its key features are modularity and the integration of autonomous systems, which are intended to be deployed in all three dimensions (above, below and on the water). This should enable the frigate to bring combat power and presence to the theatre of operations. It should also be configurable for different scenarios, e.g. as part of an aircraft carrier task force or as a single operating unit. According to BAE, this requires a new approach to the design of warships in order to be able to effectively utilise the systems integrated on board in different command and operational structures. Open architectures are intended to increase the adaptability...

German Navy procures RAM Block 2B

On 27 October 2022, RAMSYS (RAM-System GmbH, Munich) was awarded a procurement contract for 600 state-of-the-art Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) Block 2B guided missiles (LFK) for the German Navy. The new LFKs will be delivered to the navy from 2024. Clever seeker head A newly developed infrared seeker head and the introduction of a data exchange (missile-to-missile link) between several RAM Block 2Bs in a salvo significantly increase the combat value of the weapon system. Together with the more powerful radar seeker, the outstanding accuracy of the highly agile RAM LFK against current and future conventional and asymmetric threats is improved, thus strengthening the German Navy's ability to assert itself. Who invented it? The development was realised by RAMSYS...

French Navy joins Belgian-Dutch minehunter programme

After the keel was laid shortly before the end of last year at Kership in Concarneau/South Brittany (part of Naval Group) for the first construction of the twelve-unit Belgian-Dutch minehunter programme, the French Navy has now also joined the programme at Euronaval. The aim is to promote cost-reducing commonalities and interoperability of mine defence systems along the Western European coast. In particular, France intends to model the design of its new minehunter on that of the binational platform. A contract for the construction is expected to be signed next year, although a delivery date still needs to be discussed, as the Belgian and Dutch boats are to be launched first....
