Solar panels: recycling - now or later?

These days, anyone who can - and gets a tradesman's appointment - buys a photovoltaic system for their roof, balcony or window frame, and certainly also for their boat, in order to "generate at least some electricity". But even a solar panel has an expiry date! This is not printed on the glass surface, but it happens. Either the panel loses performance, has a technical defect, is damaged by hail or other impact, or becomes obsolete due to new developments. The average lifespan of a solar panel is 20 to 25 years. Very few people think about that at the moment! Even if panels function efficiently for 40 years...

North Sea: Equinor pulls plug on floating wind farm

The Norwegian energy company Equinor has cancelled plans for a large floating offshore wind farm in the Norwegian North Sea near Bergen and postponed them indefinitely. Trollvind The project, known as Trollvind, envisaged a wind farm with a capacity of 1 gigawatt, which was to supply the Troll and Oseberg offshore fields (oil and gas) with electricity via a connection point on land. North Sea: BSH prepares two wind farms

The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) has commissioned Furgo, the leading geodata specialist from the Netherlands, with the geophysical surveying of two sites for future wind farms within the German Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the North Sea. Together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems (IWES), Fugro will collect the necessary data and develop geological models of the offshore sites. The survey vessel sent by Fugro is now taking images of the sediments up to 15 metres below the seabed in the area of the two offshore wind farms. Fraunhofer IWES will also use seismic multi-channel measurements to penetrate more than 100 metres into the seabed in order to obtain older data from these...

New ocean-going tugs for the navy

It can be a little faster sometimes! On 10 November last year, the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag approved 24 million euros to find an interim solution for sea tugs. Two ocean-going tugs were sought to "tow ships with a full load of up to 21,000 tonnes in sea area A3 to safe harbour." Briefly explained: Sea area A3 refers to those sea areas that lie outside coastal waters, i.e. the Atlantic Ocean by European standards...
