China: EloKa-Jet now carrier-capable

After the carriers Liaoning and Shandong one season J-15T was seen flying in formation and was located on the flight deck of the Shandong (305/315 metres, 60-70,000 tonnes) and two examples of the J-15D China unveiled these new aircraft variants at the beginning of November at the Zhuhai Airshow officially.

The Shenyang J-15 ("Feisha" - Flying Shark) was developed as a carrier fighter jet based on the Russian Sukhoi Su-33developed. The People's Liberation Navy (PLAN) was able to acquire corresponding prototype modules in the Ukraine in 2001. Russia later designated the J-15 as "unlicensed clone of the Su-33" and complained in 2009 when China presented the finished model.

The J-15T is a further developed version of the J-15Boptimised for the Catapult launch on China's new aircraft carrier Fujian (320 metres, 80-85,000 tonnes). It has a reinforced nose landing gear. The J-15D on the other hand, is based on the two-seater trainer version J-15S and was selected for the electronic combat (EloKa) upgraded. These two variants correspond to the American F/A-18 Super Hornet and its EloKa version, the EA-18 Growler.

Although these naval jets are currently only available in limited numbers, this will soon change. In addition, the Zhuhai Airshow also the Chinese Stealth fighter aircraft J-20 and J-35 presented. The latter is a twin-jet variant designed for carrier use - strongly modelled on the American F-35. So China is by no means lagging behind in military aviation.
