The Kingdom of Denmark naturally also includes the Faroe Islands between Norway and Iceland as well as Greenland, which is over 50 times larger in area and part of the American continent (2166 million km2). Denmark has many years of experience in operating military ships in the Arctic Ocean. And because our northern neighbour is very flexible when it comes to military procurements, the naval development office OSK Design has created a very up-to-date concept for the next generation of the Multipurpose Arctic Frigate as a precautionary measure. Even if the ice on the polar ice caps melts, a ship like this will always be needed. The somewhat wider workhorse (125 metres long, 18 metres wide) has the full range of resources and capabilities required in the far north: From a protected helicopter for reconnaissance, transport and rescue to a reinforced ice-class hull with artillery and missile armament to drones and tenders of various sizes. In addition, there are short-range defence weapons on the upper deck and modular mission packages for submarine hunting or mine defence in the mission bay in the midship area. Corresponding packages for law and order tasks, disaster relief and humanitarian support missions are also planned. All in a simple but absolutely classic Danish design.
