Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) is presenting a new solution for electronic naval support at Euronaval 2022.
NESS, Naval Electronic Support Solution, represents a fully automated approach for processing radar and communication signals in a single system. The new naval electronic support solution from R&S is designed to "bring light into the darkness" according to the Munich-based company's slogan.

The scalable R&S Naval ESS solution, which can be adapted to specific requirements, detects, identifies and localises complex and broadband radar emissions and captures enemy communications. It combines all surveillance results and provides an extended picture of the entire electromagnetic spectrum. The particularly high sensitivity and accuracy of the solution leads to increased range coverage and early warning capability. In addition, the solution protects naval vessels from time-critical threats.
"Thanks to the new R&S Marine-ES solution, it is now possible to gain a complete situational picture and recognise potential threats at an early stage," continues Stefan Leo, R&S. "A combined approach to radar and communication signals brings the benefits of faster response time, more reliable results and greater situational awareness. Radar threats are recognised much earlier (more time to react), the false alarm rate is significantly reduced (better decision making) and the level of self-protection is increased. The new system offers signal intelligence functions that allow operators on board to easily analyse unknown signals and expand transmitter databases for automatic identification."
The new system, which can be seen as a successor solution to the KORA used by the German Navy, is already being used successfully by unnamed customers.
