Since 2022, the Royal Australian Navy and Californian drone manufacturer Anduril have been funding and developing an XL-AUV (Extra-Large Autonomous Undersea Vehicle), which they call the "Ghost Shark". Three prototypes were to be built and trialled within three years - and the timeframe was actually missed! Now, at the beginning of September, a five-year contract worth billions was signed with Anduril Australia for the production, maintenance and further development of an entire fleet of these XL AUVs. With the globally deployable long-range drones for reconnaissance, surveillance, data collection and also attack operations, Australia wants to position itself for the future and be compatible with the alliance, at least under water - and this has truly continental dimensions for Australia!
