The "King" shows once again what he can do!
It is always impressive to see what the good old SeaKing - or Mk 41 multi-purpose transport helicopter - can demonstrate to visitors to Kieler Woche. Whether it's retrieving people from the water or from on board or dropping off rescue teams: when the unmistakable sound of the "King's" turbine announces its approach, everyone's head goes up. Most of the time, however, it wasn't there, as you can see in the pictures, you were close to this #SeakingSaturday - so old and still fascinating.
For the last few months, this SeaKing pictured here has been repainted in its original 1970s livery - just as the people of Kiel have known it for decades.
At the end of August, the "saviour of the skies", which was originally based in Kiel and "relocated" to Nordholz with Naval Air Wing 5, will finally be decommissioned. Its successor, the "Sea Lion", is already in service. However, the aircraft have a new life: they are being handed over to the Ukraine.
A small note: The colour scheme corresponds to the predecessor model H-34, the Sea Kings were dark grey, basalt grey to be precise (RAL 7012). The orange-coloured parts are of course correct. And yes, these were displays to enjoy, with the best weather to boot.
BZ to the naval aviators!
