The German sensor company Hensoldt will modernise the radar systems of initially two corvettes of the first batch of class 130 as well as a shore-based system. The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) placed a corresponding order as part of a programme to eliminate obsolescence on the corvettes. The deliveries are scheduled to take place in the course of this year. The ships, which have been in service since 2008, are equipped with the TRS-3D three-dimensional multifunction radar for air and sea surveillance. It has a range of more than two hundred kilometres and is capable of tracking more than 750 targets. By coupling it with the Hensoldt MSSR 2000 I identification system, position and movement data can be correlated, facilitating the automatic identification of ships and aircraft. TRS-3D is a leader in its class, with more than 60 devices in use by navies and coast guards worldwide.
Hensoldt is also the supplier of the radar systems for the second batch of the K 130. The company already has seven TRS-4D "Rotator" radars and the MSSR 2000 I friend-or-foe detection system (IFF) under contract - for five corvettes and two land-based systems. Delivery is scheduled to take place by 2022. With the MSSR 2000 I (MSSR = Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar), Hensoldt was the first non-US company to have its friend-or-foe detection system certified by the responsible (AIMS) programme office at the US Department of Defence in 2019.
