It should be more practical, but it's already chic!
It came as something of a surprise to many when the Inspector of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jan-Christian Kaack, announced at the 63rd Historical-Tactical Conference of the Navy on 11 January: "This year will see the first prototype of a new combat suit - without a light blue shirt." The subsequent murmur in the hall indicated that there was probably not so much insider knowledge after all.
It is now public. Bundeswehr Bekleidungsmanagement GmbH has launched a competitive tender for the procurement of a "naval clothing system". This was reported on the European online procurement platform TED on 13 February. The expert platform hartpunkt.de also reported the news.
Several different items of clothing are to be procured according to the following criteria:
- Result of troop testing with a weighting of 40 per cent
- Quality of the offer sample with a weighting of 15 per cent
- Delivery deadlines for follow-up call-offs from the framework agreement with a weighting of 10 per cent
- Prize with a weighting of 35 per cent
According to the TED report, the Marine clothing system consists of the following parts:
- Wet weather jacket, navy blue
- Wetness protection trousers, navy blue
- Board and combat suit (BGA) trousers, heavy, navy blue
- Board and battle dress (BGA) jacket, heavy, navy blue
- Board and combat suit (BGA) Combatshirt, heavy, navy blue

A new uniform variant had already been introduced before the frigate "Bayern" travelled to East Asia in 2021. The navy received summer suits, or a tropical uniform as it was previously known. The six-month trial worn by the crew of the frigate Bayern was successful.
A somewhat helpless contribution without pictures.
Hello Mr Hansen. The fact that we cannot offer any media-available and copyright-free images of the new on-board clothing does not make the article "helpless"! The information alone is news enough. It doesn't always have to be a picture - but it certainly shouldn't be a "fake" photo, as is often offered in advance. Besides: after all, this is only the invitation to tender, not yet the "prêt-à-porter" collection for the catwalk. In other words: the new on-board combat suit does not yet exist - it will first be made and tested - and then we will report on it again.
Yours sincerely
