In addition to a common language, a common history and a common head of state, there are also unifying elements between the United Kingdom and its former colonies Australia and Canada in the area of defence. A large-scale frigate project has been added in recent years.

Dr David Shakleton from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) issued a very critical assessment of this in April 2022.
