Nigerian guard boats now clear for the Gulf of Guinea

The guard boats delivered in December to reinforce the Nigerian Patrol Forces were christened and commissioned in the presence of distinguished guests on the occasion of the 69th naval birthday at the Beecroft base in Apapa opposite Lagos Island. The two new Sea Eagle boats (38 metres, 190 tonnes) built in Malaysia and purchased by Singapore and another smaller guard boat of the over 40-year-old Chamsuri class (37 metres, 150 tonnes) provided by South Korea now bear the names "Shere", "Faro" and "Ikogosi". Together with three newly acquired AW109 Trekker helicopters, the Patrol Forces will be able to give clear emphasis to the country's endeavours to decisively counter piracy, oil theft and illegal fishing in the national 24-mile zone in the Gulf of Guinea (Operation Delta Sanity). Good news from the other Gulf.
