In September, the Northern Coasts 2023 naval exercise took place in the Baltic Sea - the exercise was planned and led by the German Maritime Forces Staff (Deu Marfor for short) from the naval command.
It was a grey September morning when the screens in the Naval Command Operations Centre were switched off. Poor weather conditions in the Northern Coasts (Noco) exercise area, particularly in the coastal areas of Latvia and Estonia, led to the decision to end the manoeuvre two days earlier than planned. Up to this point, the multinational staff of Deu Marfor led Task Force 421, at this time still under Flotilla Admiral Stephan Haisch as Deputy Commander. Haisch has since been promoted to Rear Admiral and Commander Deu Marfor.
