Great success of the pilot seminar on SAR basic training organised by the DMYV in cooperation with Visiomare GmbH from Bremen
The first of two pilot seminars for instructors on SAR basic training organised by the DMYV in cooperation with Visiomare GmbH in Bremen was a complete success. The aim of the seminar was to enable water sports enthusiasts to communicate clearly in an emergency at sea and, if necessary, to take part in professionally guided search procedures in order to improve safety at sea.
The programme included the introduction and relevance of the topic "Assistance at sea", definitions, basics for the SAR service, raising the alarm in an emergency at sea, communication in the SAR service, drift factors and search procedures.
Pilot seminars for trainers
The procedures and processes were illustrated using real-life case studies and graphics. The pilot event was initially aimed at instructors from sports boat schools and clubs to enable them to pass on relevant information to applicants for driving licences and radio certificates as part of their training and to raise their awareness of the topic.
Courses for active water sports enthusiasts being planned
If the pilot events are successful, the focus will later also be on active water sports enthusiasts, who can attend seminars at DMYV-recognised training centres to learn, for example, how to professionally search for a person who has fallen overboard, how to communicate with each other and with the emergency services in the event of an emergency at sea, and which factors need to be taken into account.
Experienced seminar leader from seafaring and sea rescue
The seminar leader, lecturer and founder of Visiomare GmbH from Bremen, Juliana Schmidt-Theurer, has a degree in nautical science and practical experience as an officer at sea with Hapag Lloyd Cruises. From 2017 to 2022, she worked at the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre of the German Maritime Search and Rescue Association (MRCC Bremen/DGzRS). As an instructor at the simulator centre of the DGzRS Maritime Rescue Academy, she worked on the development and implementation of courses and developed training concepts in the field of maritime English for the further training of colleagues in the DGzRS fleet.
