The Bonn" task force provider has been undergoing a scheduled maintenance phase at German Naval Yards since 1 July 2024. On 31 January 2025, the shipyard announced that following extensive major overhaul work on the engines, gearboxes, pumps, generators and other components of the propulsion system, the ship had been moved to the outfitting pier "Berth 6", where the final work will take place.
The focus is now on work on the most important ship systems, such as overhauling the drinking and cooling water systems, fuel and air conditioning technology. In addition, the "Bonn" prepared for their crew to move in: Chambers, mess rooms, galleys and sanitary areas are being finalised. In addition, the power supply, fire extinguishing systems and propulsion system are being tested, which is essential before commissioning.
At our request, delivery to the German Navy is scheduled for the end of the first quarter. By then, German Naval Yards alone is expected to have worked a total of 61,000 man-hours. A total of 170 different suppliers and subcontractors will ultimately have contributed. According to the Kiel shipyard, product changes and additional orders have increased the original shipyard work list by more than 65 per cent. Despite this growth, German Naval Yards intends to stay on schedule. A representative of the shipyard told us: "In this project, in addition to the very good cooperation with the maintenance officer of the naval arsenal and the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw), the very good and goal-oriented cooperation with the shipboard command of the German Navy is particularly important. EGV "Bonn" to be emphasised. For us, this is an important building block for the timely realisation of the project!"
