Indonesian 6,000-tonne patrol vessel - with "P" in front of the hull number

They are 143 metres long and displace 6,300 tonnes - but are considered multi-purpose patrol vessels and consequently bear a "P" in front of the hull number as their type designation. The first versions of the Italian Thaon di Revel class were built in the "light" configuration FFBNW - Fitted For But Not With, i.e. prepared for the installation of FK weapon systems, but delivered without them. This is inexpensive and promotes exports - a business that Italy is well versed in. Further units were delivered for the Marina Militare in the "full" version, but also with the "P" on the outer skin. Indonesia has now purchased two of the "light" versions under construction for Italy and had them completed. After a six-week transit, the first ship, named "Brawijaya", arrived in Jakarta at the beginning of September for the formal ceremony before being transferred to Surabaya to join the second fleet. The sister ship "Prabu Siliwangi" is scheduled to follow before the end of the year. Both units are to be upgraded in Indonesia to the "full" air defence version with the Aster-30, but there is no rush to do this now - they are already Indonesia's largest naval units.
