"U 96 - Limited Edition" by Gerrit Reichert: Exclusive edition of the bestseller now available to order from Mittler
The Limited Edition of "U 96 - Reality and Myth" is the special edition of the 4th edition of Gerrit Reichert's bestseller. Each book comes with one of the last diary reprints by Friedrich Grade. He was the chief engineer on board and kept his diary during the 7th hostile voyage of U 96. The faithfulness to the original and the transcription make this edition a special collector's item. U 96 became famous through Lothar-Günther Buchheim's bestselling novel "The boat". Buchheim accompanied the submarine as a war correspondent for Nazi propaganda. Made into a film in 1981, the novel continues to shape the image of German submarines to this day. In his book, Reichert reports on which aspects correspond to reality and which turned out to be myths.
The accompanying diary provides exclusive insights into the everyday life of the crew and the characters on board during the 7th voyage and into the relationships within the crew. Friedrich Grade entrusted it to Gerrit Reichert, who has been researching the U 96 for many years and presents new findings in the current edition. In the additional chapter "Lost property 'The boat'", Reichert documents the previously unknown whereabouts of U 96 together with the Wilhelmshaven journalist and naval expert Dr Frank Ganseuer. The two spent a year researching in Wilhelmshaven and reconstructed in an exciting puzzle of facts and clues that at least the stern with the diesel engine, but probably also the bow, are still there.
"U 96 - Limited Edition 1973 - 2025" by Gerrit Reichert is available in hardcover format 26 x 24 cm, including a limited reprint of the diary, for €50.00 from bookshops and the publisher's online shop at www.koehler-mittler-shop.de can be ordered.
