The second of six planned submarines was ceremoniously handed over to the Turkish Navy in Turkey
The second of a total of six contracted HDW-Class NTSP boats was handed over today at a ceremony in Gölcük. The "TCG Hızırreis" was handed over by GNSY (Gölcük Naval Shipyard) to the procurement authority SSB (Savunma Sanayii Başkanlığı) and simultaneously from there to the Turkish Navy. The first boat was handed over in October 2024. The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from SSB, the GNSY shipyard, the Turkish Navy and TKMS. Christian Rogge, EVP Segment Submarines at TKMS, is satisfied: "All parties involved have shown a high level of commitment and willingness to cooperate since the beginning of the project - this is the only way to realise projects of this size on time and within budget. The handover that has now taken place emphasises the good partnership between TKMS, GNSY and the Turkish Navy."
As part of the co-operation between TKMS and the Turkish Navy, TKMS is responsible for the design, the supply of all materials and
for monitoring the construction and testing phase. An 18-month warranty phase will now follow. Production of the other four boats is already underway and is at different stages of the project. Delivery of the third boat is scheduled for around a year from now, according to the schedule of the state-owned shipyard GNSY.
