The US Navy has postponed the decommissioning of its oldest active aircraft carrier, the USS „Nimitz“ (CVN 68), originally planned for May 2026, until 2027. This is due to the delayed commissioning of the second Ford-class aircraft carrier, the USS „John F. Kennedy“ (CVN 79),
