A home port for the frigate Hessen

Bad Homburg: Mayor Dr Oliver Jedynak welcomed a naval delegation from the frigate Hessen on Wednesday, 27 October 2021The town sign with the inscription "Bad Homburg - Kurstadt" was handed over to the new owner at Villa Wertheimber in Bad Homburg on behalf of 11 other Hessian municipalities. The 12 plaques are to be installed on board the frigate Hessen. The presentation of the plaques was initiated by Bernhard P. Kluge from Friedrichsdorf, Chairman of the Freundeskreis Fregatte Hessen e.V. (Friends of the Frigate Hessen).

A 25-strong delegation from the frigate Hessen is currently visiting Wiesbaden in its sponsor state at the invitation of the State Chancellery. Under the leadership of the new commander, frigate captain Volker Kübsch (marineforum reported) there is an extensive programme of visits: a visit to Bad Homburg, the Saalburg Roman fort, Villa Wertheimer and, in the evening, a meal in the "Fleischerei" in Ober-Erlenbach with Markus Koob, Member of the Bundestag. The idea for town plaques came from the former commander of the frigate Hessen, Frigate Captain Hans-Ulrich Geissler, who had expressed the wish to have plaques with the names of Hessian towns affixed on board the frigate. This is intended to promote the bond between the ship's command, crew and sponsor state. Bernhard P. Kluge, a former officer in the German Navy, was then able to win over 12 towns in Hesse for the project. Dr Jedynak took the opportunity to thank the members of the delegation on behalf of all units for their commitment to the Federal Republic of Germany. He said that thanks were due to the soldiers of the Bundeswehr, not only for their deployments abroad, but also for their commitment at home over the past few months.

The Friends of the Frigate Hessen have accompanied the state's sponsorship since the frigate was commissioned 15 years ago. The association sees itself as a hinge between the German Navy and society. The Circle of Friends is part of the REUNION Marine association - an association of business and political leaders who have committed themselves to supporting the interests of the German Navy in the respective sponsor countries and sponsor cities due to their naval affiliation.

The frigate Hessen is currently in her home port in Wilhelmshaven. After two years in the shipyard, the crew is preparing for the long-awaited return to service.

The signs that will soon be on display at Hessen are from: Bad Homburg, Darmstadt, Fulda, Gießen, Hanau, Bad Hersfeld, Kassel, Limburg, Marburg, Wetzlar, Wiesbaden and Frankfurt.
