The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR - Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources) had invited to a special meeting in June 2023 to overcome the six-year stalemate in the establishment of additional marine protected areas in the Southern Ocean. Once again, China and Russia are blocking the process.
