Armaments power on the Bosporus

For some years now, Turkey has been focussing on developing its own weapons systems. This also supports export successes in the defence industry.

Turkey is systematically expanding its global presence with the help of a flourishing defence industry. With over 250 embassies and consulates, the country is even ahead of Germany, which only has 226 missions abroad. Only the USA, China and France have more. This global network supports Turkey's military, economic and cultural presence on all continents, but particularly in Africa.

Turkey is represented in 46 of the 54 states there alone, having declared the continent a strategic partner. In February 2024, Turkey concluded a ten-year military agreement with Somalia in the areas of maritime security and the economy. This gave Turkey full sovereignty over Somalia's territorial waters with a simultaneous obligation to protect and defend them.
