After a month's interruption, the Canadian frigate Halifax is now once again the flagship of the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG 1). It has taken over this function from the Danish frigate Absalonthe type ship of its class, which entered service in 2007, was previously the Halifax the flagship.
SNMG 1 currently consists of just these two ships and is under the command of Canadian Commodore Bradley Peats. Until 14 May, the two frigates took part in the Joint Warrior exercise off the Scottish coast. At the heart of this major manoeuvre, which will continue until 20 May, was the British carrier Queen Elizabethwhich is preparing for a tour of Asia lasting several months. After a harbour stop in Brest, France Absalon and Halifax will be taking part in another NATO exercise over the next few days. Steadfast Defender 2021 comprises 19 ships and more than 40 aircraft.
