The Colombian Ministry of Defence has confirmed the signing of a contract between the Dutch Damen shipyard and the state-owned shipbuilding complex Cotecmar (Corporación de Ciencia y Tecnología para el Desarrollo de la Industria Naval Marítima y Fluvial). The object of the contract is the construction documentation for Colombia's new frigate PES (Plataforma Estrategia de Superficie - Strategic Surface Unit), which is to be built at the shipyard in Cartagena-de-Indias on the Caribbean side of Colombia. The graphic shows the female design of the SIGMA 10514 with 76 mm turret, 16-cell vertical launch silo for ESSM air target radars (two fire control radars on bridge and island), 8 MM40 sea target radars and a Rheinmetall-Oerlikon 35 mm CIWS Millennium.

Swiss precision
The Millennium turret gun with a cadence of 1000 rounds per minute has been in service for several years on the Indonesian Martadinata-class corvettes (same design), the Venezuelan Guaiqueri-class (OPV, Spanish Avante 2200) and the Danish Iver Huitfeldt-class frigates. These CIWS guns are equipped with a muzzle velocity sensor at the end of the barrel, which measures the exact projectile velocity via two coils and inductively sets the firing time via a third coil on each passing, high-precision fuse of the AHEAD (Advanced Hit Efficiency and Destruction) projectiles, so that the projectile detonates immediately before the approaching enemy weapon. The art of Swiss watchmaking!
