After - as reported - Russian units conducted submarine hunting manoeuvres in the eastern Mediterranean from 15 to 25 February, NATO forces have now come together off Italy for one of NATO's two major annual submarine hunting exercises. "Dynamic Manta" (DYMA22) runs from 21 February for a fortnight until well into March and is based at the ports of Catania, Augusta and Syracuse on the eastern side of Sicily, as well as at Sigonella airport (Navy) near Catania and Trapani airport (Air Force) in the west of the island.
