Ukraine: Even more new recruits for the navy

On the day that British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace visited Ukraine in mid-November and signed an agreement to "develop the capabilities of Ukraine's naval forces", the Ukrainian Navy announced the arrival of two new coast guard boats. China's second navy becomes seaworthy At the beginning of 2013, China decided to merge four of the five different maritime law enforcement agencies into the China Coast Guard (CCG, long title: Chinese People's Armed Police Force Coast Guard Corps (PAPCGC)). With almost 1,400 units, China has an almost unmanageable fleet of white-painted ships and boats - the world's largest coast guard in terms of vehicles and personnel - for customs tasks, fisheries protection and piracy defence, but above all for enforcing sovereignty claims. And since January 2021, a new coastguard law has been in force that allows the CCG to use lethal force against foreign vessels that fail to comply with requests to enter Chinese waters.

New recruits for Ukrainian coast guard

In the presence of the Ukrainian ambassador, Vadym Omelchenko, BG 201 was launched in Sables d'Olonne on 9 December. This is the first of twenty patrol boats for the Ukrainian coastguard. The FPB 98 MKI aluminium vessels can reach 35 knots, have a range of 12 knots and can be in operation for up to two weeks. With a crew of 13, an additional six officers can be embarked.
