IMO: New Secretary General elected

The UN Maritime Administration has announced that the Council of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has elected Arsenio Antonio Dominguez Velasco from Panama as its Secretary-General. Dominguez prevailed in a vote against six other candidates from Bangladesh, China, Dominica, Finland, Kenya and Turkey and is expected to take office on 1 January 2024, subject to approval at the 33rd IMO Assembly later this year.
