Dutch Navy: New protection task

The Dutch government has assigned the Ministry of Defence the permanent task of monitoring potential threats in the Dutch part of the North Sea. The Dutch government is thus recognising the risk of sabotage against vital maritime infrastructure and is gaining a better picture of the situation regarding threats in the North Sea. EU: New undersea cable in the Black Sea to bypass Russia

The European Union is planning to lay a new 1,100-kilometre-long data cable in the Black Sea in order to bypass the existing terrestrial connection (fibre optic) to Georgia, which is considered "unsafe" and "unstable" because it runs through Russia. Such a connection was already being considered before Russia's invasion of Ukraine; following Georgia's membership application at the beginning of March 2022, its planning perspective has now been significantly advanced. Bremerhaven: Construction of converter platforms?

Offshore wind farms require the energy from the wind turbine generators (alternating current) to be transported via cables under the sea and then converted to direct current on land at the point of generation - as this is significantly less lossy over long distances. This conversion takes place in very voluminous converters that are anchored deep in the ground on high stilts near the wind farms, standing above the waves. These platforms, measuring an impressive 70 x 30 x 30 metres in length/width/height, are located around 20 metres above the surface of the water and reach up to 60 metres into the ground with their anchoring. Migration and flight: Riding the rudder blade

The news about refugees being picked up by sea is becoming increasingly spectacular. What was recently "only" an eleven-day journey from Nigeria to La Palma/Tenerife was survived by four stowaways on the rudder blade of a Liberian freighter/tanker after 5,000 nautical miles in mid-July! The as yet unnamed ship had set sail from Lagos/Nigeria at the end of June and had been travelling for thirteen days before Brazilian federal police discovered the four men without papers and verifiable identity in poor physical condition under the stern. After necessary medical observation, they are expected to be brought back to Nigeria shortly - probably by plane! Stowaways on the rudder blade or in the...
