Red Sea: Damaged submarine cables are being repaired

More than a dozen underwater cables have been laid through the Red Sea. At least three of them were probably severed by the anchor of a cargo ship attacked by the Houthi militias. On 18 February 2024, two anti-ship missiles were fired at the bulk carrier "Rubymar" (171 metres, 19,000 tonnes), one of which hit the ship and caused severe damage. The ship sank on 2 March. Oslo: New database for seabed minerals

The Norwegian Offshore Directorate (NOD) has signed a memorandum of understanding for co-operation with Denmark and Greenland to collect new data on seabed minerals. Port of Hamburg: Western expansion

After Cosco (China) and the planned entry of MSC (Switzerland), the next investment in the port of Hamburg is apparently imminent. According to information from NDR, several large shipping companies have expressed their interest to Eurogate in participating in the major project, including at least two Asian shipping companies in addition to the French CMA CGM. New areas for container handling and two new berths for large container ships are to be created in Hamburg-Waltershof as part of the western expansion. The maritime world is exposed to multiple threats, the armed conflicts in the Black and Red Seas being just two of them.
