Red Sea: The situation before the mandate for the navy

While the German frigate "Hessen" has arrived in Souda Bay (Crete) on its way to the area of operations for resupply, the situation in the south of the Red Sea is becoming turbulent. During the course of the day on 19 February, UKTMO reported a possible attack on a ship approx. 100 nautical miles east of Aden (Incident 033). "Bonn" task force supply ship as a baptism of fire for the Warnowwerft shipyard

This is how the navy wanted it: fast and pragmatic cooperation between armoury operations and the fleet! On 15 January 2024, the task force provider "Bonn" sailed from Wilhelmshaven. At the beginning of the year, the ship was supposed to be part of the NATO Very High Readiness Joint Task Force Maritime (VJTF M), i.e. deployed on the northern flank. The frigate "Hessen" has been ordered to the Mediterranean by the naval command in order to be able to join the units of the EU Operation Aspides (Shield) immediately following the necessary parliamentary decision. Participation in this operation differs from participation in previous EU and NATO projects in that it fundamentally involves a "sharp call to arms".
