Baltic Sea: Heavily laden with the treasures of the Orient . . .

At the beginning of March, a Russian sea transport consisting of the two cargo ships "Sparta IV" and "Ursa Major" left the Syrian coastal area around Tartus and made its way to Baltiysk and St. Petersburg under varying western guard/escorts. On 20 March, the convoy was picked up by the Russian frigate "Neustrashimiy" (type ship, project 1154, 130 metres, 4,300 tonnes), which had left Baltiysk the day before, north of Skagen and escorted through the Baltic Sea. Such ships for the transport of Russian crude oil and other oil products were purchased to circumvent the sanctions imposed by the USA, the European Union and the G7 group (oil price cap). Although there is no evidence of environmental pollution from the collision with the apparently unladen tanker, it is a renewed warning of the risks that the "shadow fleet" also poses in...

Following the initial order of five aircraft in June 2021, Germany is now procuring three more for the German Navy. The first aircraft is scheduled for delivery in 2025 and will replace the P-3 Orion fleet. Last year, Canada also announced that it would be procuring the Poseidon. Canada is thus replacing its current fleet of CP-140 Auroras. The first P-8A for Canada is expected to be delivered in 2026. The P-8A Poseidon...

Ukraine: Netherlands part of international security cooperation

The agreement focuses on medium and long-term military and political support. In addition to the Netherlands, countries such as the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Canada and the EU had previously signed such agreements with Ukraine. The Netherlands is also providing Ukraine with fourteen rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIB). These are fast and manoeuvrable militarised river patrol and combat boats.
