USA confirms SM-2 spare parts production for allies

Raytheon has specified an existing contract for the supply of spare parts for the Standard Missile-2 (SM-2) missile to US allies under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme worth USD 141 million and announced the production schedule in a press release. Aircraft carrier USS "Nimitz": Last deployment before retirement

The Nimitz Carrier Strike Group left its home port of Bremerton in Washington State (WA) in March for a planned deployment in the western Pacific. This will likely be the last deployment for the Nimitz, the oldest active aircraft carrier in the U.S. Navy, before it retires this year after 50 years of service. The "Nimitz" battle group (CVN 68) consists of a carrier air wing (CVW-17) and a destroyer squadron (DESRON-9). The carrier group's mission is - as always - focused on protecting the security, freedom and prosperity of the United States, its allies and partners and demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the U.S. Navy...

In a comparison of the four largest German seaports, however, the locations in Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven made significant gains. While Bremerhaven (2nd place) was able to increase its cargo handling by 8.6 percent with a total of 42.5 million tonnes, Wilhelmshaven achieved the best performance. With 34.5 million tonnes and a...

Autonomous seafaring - Anschütz sets standards

Anschütz, the German market leader for navigation and bridge systems, has developed and successfully tested an automatic collision avoidance system (CAS) as part of the Kiel CAPTN initiative (see below for more information). The automation of vehicles in a busy sea area such as the Kiel Fjord posed a particular challenge, the true dimensions of which only become apparent in practical application. During the lengthy series of tests, however, the situation analyses and recommended actions of the CAS coincided with those of the navigators critically accompanying them - a good basis for the further development of autonomous navigation. The CAS is based on an algorithm that analyses the maritime situation using conventional sensor data (radar,...

Autonomy in battle

With the CB 90, Saab offers a powerful combat boat. The integration of the Autonomous Ocean Core now opens up further potential uses. With the CB90 (CB stands for Combat Boat) from its subsidiary Docksta, Saab is demonstrating how a unit originally designed for manned operation can be optimised for uncrewed operation with the help of autonomous technologies. CB90 is already in service with several navies for amphibious, littoral and riverine operations. In addition to the Royal Swedish Navy - where it is primarily used for amphibious purposes - the CB90 is also used by the US Navy.
