Flotilla admiral personnel carousel

Four officers with the rank of flotilla admiral are changing posts this month. Christian Bock, Commander of Operational Flotilla 1 and Director of the NATO Centre of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters in Kiel, is leaving his post to take up the post of Director of Training at the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College in Hamburg. Bock is also Chairman of the German Maritime Institute, which publishes the magazine marineforum and is behind the online presence of the same name. Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNSY) in Kittery, Maine, is receiving two new dry docks as part of its modernisation. Vice Admiral Michael Noonan, Inspector of the Australian Navy, has proudly announced that the new Hobart-class destroyers are ready for deployment. The last ship in the three-ship series, the HMAS Sydney, returned to Australia last month from a lengthy test voyage. South Korea puts its first self-developed submarine into service

The South Korean Navy commissioned the first Dosan Ahn Changho-class submarine today (Friday 13 August). The boat has been built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) in Geoje since 2016. With a length of 83.5 metres, the type ship of the class displaces around 3360 tonnes above water and 3750 tonnes under water, with a crew of around 50 people.
