Launch for ladies in South Africa

On 25 March, the first of three Multi-Mission Inshore Patrol Vessels (MMIPVs) was launched at Damen Shipyards Cape Town (DSCT). The boats are to be used in the fight against drug trafficking and illegal fishing. The boat, which weighs more than 600 tonnes, was brought from the shipyard to the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) synchrolift at the Victoria & Alfred (V&A) Waterfront basin on the evening of 23 March. This job was carried out by the South African subsidiary of Mammoet from the Netherlands, a company known for extreme heavy haulage. "Novosibirsk" will be handed over to the Russian fleet in 2021

According to Russian sources, the first production nuclear submarine of Project 885 M (Yasen-M), named Novosibirsk, is to be handed over to the Russian naval fleet at the end of 2021. By then, the Novosibirsk should have completed shipyard trials and undergone naval trials. During these trials, launches of the Oniks and Kalibr-PL missiles are planned. The shipyard is also reportedly planning to hand over the Project 885 M type submarine, the Kazan, this year. There are six more submarines of this project under construction. The seventh and eighth hulls of Project 885M, the Voronezh and Vladivostok nuclear submarines, were launched on 20 July 2020.

Hat-trick for HMS Montrose

After two drug finds in February, the British frigate Montrose has now scored again. The soldiers were able to seize drugs worth more than three million pounds on a suspicious dhow. The Montrose's helicopter had spotted the small boat in the northern Arabian Sea. The commander decided to investigate and steered his ship in the direction of the dhow. Starting signal for U 212 CD

The signs of the past few months suggested a failure. Now the German-Norwegian submarine project U 212 CD is reaching the finishing line. The Norwegian Ministry of Defence announced on 23 March that the two procurement organisations had reached an agreement with Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems on the contract for the class to be developed on a binational basis. Change at the head of the Dutch Navy

Schout-bij-nacht René Tas becomes the new inspector of the Dutch Navy. On 9 September, he will take over command of the armed forces from Vice Admiral Rob Kramer as Vice Admiral.
