Netherlands: Maintenance contract for three support vessels

The Department of Material Maintenance (DMI) of the Dutch Ministry of Defence has signed a five-year contract with the Kinderdijk-based shipyard group Royal IHC in September 2023 to carry out dock-related maintenance work on the two hydrographic survey vessels HNLMS "Snellius" (A802) and HNLMS "Luymes" (A803) and the submarine support and torpedo work vessel HNLMS "Mercuur" (A900). Royal IHC is responsible for the project management, while the docking work will be carried out in cooperation with the Neptune Marine shipyard in neighbouring Hardinxveld-Giessendam. U.S. Navy - Training level lowered again

The US Navy had already lowered the test score requirements for new sailors to the lowest level permitted by law and is now cancelling a regulation from the year 2000 that required a secondary school diploma to join the Navy. Requirement profile Recruits without a general education diploma (roughly equivalent to a vocational baccalaureate in Germany) or high school diploma (Abitur) can now apply and be accepted into the armed forces without formal educational qualifications, provided they achieve a score of at least 50 per cent in the Armed Services Qualification Test. Russian Navy: Large workshop ship on its way home - and now?

On the last weekend in January, the large workshop ship "PM-82" of the Russian Navy could be seen travelling eastwards in the Fehmarnbelt. The Amur-class ship (project 304, 122 metres, 5,600 tonnes) was accompanied on its journey from Tartus in Syria to Baltiysk by the support ship "Sergey Balk", which has been commuting between the Baltic Sea and the Middle East for almost a year. Great Britain - Laser weapon successfully tested

London - The UK has moved a step closer to the military use of lasers after successfully trialling its new laser project. The UK Ministry of Defence announced that the "DragonFire" energy system has shot down several drones with laser beams while flying off the coast of Scotland for the first time.
