EuroNaval: BAE Systems with modularity to success - Adaptable Strike Frigate

BAE Systems used EuroNaval to present the concept of an "adaptable" frigate for the first time. Its key features are modularity and the integration of autonomous systems, which are intended to be deployed in all three dimensions (above, below and on the water). This should enable the frigate to bring combat power and presence to the theatre of operations. It should also be configurable for different scenarios, e.g. as part of an aircraft carrier task force or as a single operating unit. According to BAE, this requires a new approach to the design of warships in order to be able to effectively utilise the systems integrated on board in different command and operational structures. Open architectures are intended to increase the adaptability...

Marina-Armada de México: A coin for the navy on its 200th anniversary

That would be a good way to promote greater maritime understanding among the German population (and beyond): a coin with maritime coinage! Perhaps for the 175th anniversary of the German Navy next year? Mexico is leading the way. To mark the bicentenary of the founding of its navy, the state has commissioned the Banco de México (Banxico) to mint a new 20-peso coin. It is intended as a token of appreciation for the navy's services in winning and stabilising Mexico's independence, protecting and defending Mexican territory and supporting the Mexican population in emergencies and disasters.

Israeli torpedo defence solution for surface units

DSIT Solutions Ltd (DSIT), a subsidiary of RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems Ltd and the Israeli provider of underwater defence technology for 30 years, presented its torpedo defence system for surface vessels at EuroNaval 2022. Its components, a hull sensor in two variants, a control suite and the RAFAEL torpedo defence system as a combination of soft and hard-kill solution can be installed on a large number of surface platforms and integrated into the existing command and weapon deployment systems. In the course of a torpedo attack, the target has little time to recognise the threat and initiate effective countermeasures. In addition, the underwater signalling environment makes reliable classification difficult due to high false alarm rates....

French Navy joins Belgian-Dutch minehunter programme

After the keel was laid shortly before the end of last year at Kership in Concarneau/South Brittany (part of Naval Group) for the first construction of the twelve-unit Belgian-Dutch minehunter programme, the French Navy has now also joined the programme at Euronaval. The aim is to promote cost-reducing commonalities and interoperability of mine defence systems along the Western European coast. In particular, France intends to model the design of its new minehunter on that of the binational platform. A contract for the construction is expected to be signed next year, although a delivery date still needs to be discussed, as the Belgian and Dutch boats are to be launched first....
