September hat der südkoreanische Marinebefehlshaber, Admiral Boo Suk-jong, das dritte und letzte U-Boot des ersten Loses der außenluftunabhängigen CHANGBOBO-III-Klasse auf der Hyundai Heavy Industries Werft in Ulsan auf den Namen SHIN CHAE-HO getauft und zu Wasser gelassen. Diese U-Boote sind eine südkoreanische Entwicklung und sind zu fast 80% aus eigenen Fertigungsteilen gebaut, verdrängen etwa 3.000 Tonnen und haben bei einer Besatzungsstärke von 50 eine Ausdauer von 20 Tagen unter Wasser.
