Hapag-Lloyd shines

Hapag-Lloyd, Germany's largest shipping company and number five in the global ranking of liner shipping companies, has received a strong tailwind from the coronavirus pandemic and was able to present a significantly improved result compared to the previous year. According to preliminary figures, earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) rose to around 1.3 billion euros. This includes one-off expenses totalling around 120 million euros. The increase in freight rates by an average of almost USD 50 per TEU compared to 2019 due to high demand and lower bunker prices played an important role in the good result. However, cost savings of around 500 million euros also had an impact.

American Navy exercises with Malaysian Air Force in the South China Sea

Navigation radar for Polish minesweepers

Two of the new minesweepers for the Polish Navy will be equipped with the Kelvin Hughes Mk 11 X Band SharpEye navigation radar. It will be part of the integrated navigation bridge system from OSI Maritime Systems and will perform both navigation and maritime surveillance functions. The two Project 258 minesweepers, Albatros and Mewa, were built at the Remontowa shipyard in Gdansk. They are 58 metres long and displace 850 tonnes. The hull is made of non-magnetic steel. The main armament of the Kormoran II class is a 35-millimetre cannon. The radar system was developed by Kelvin Hughes, which was acquired by Hensoldt in 2017.
