Norway: Six instead of four submarines?

In November 2022, the government asked the Chief of Staff of the Norwegian Armed Forces, General Eirik Kristoffersen, for his recommendation on how national and alliance defence should be organised and equipped in the future. The 68-page paper was submitted in May and published at the beginning of June. It contains extensive proposals such as increasing the size of the armed forces and improving their structures, but above all strengthening maritime capabilities and air defence. Operational readiness in all areas should be significantly increased - so significantly, access marineforum digital+ Are you already a registered user? Denmark: Hull Vane for OPV NORDSØEN

At the beginning of May 2023, the Hvide Sande shipyard on the Danish west coast handed over the first offshore patrol vessel (OPV) to the Danish Fisheries Agency. It was delivered with azimuth propulsion nacelles and in combination with a guide plate (hull vane) under the stern. A hull vane smoothes out the turbulence behind a moving ship and makes it faster and quieter, i.e. more efficient. At the same time, the sea behaviour is improved. For the development and function of a hull vane, see the article "Netherlands: Hull Vane for the GRONINGEN" from 12 February 2023. Objectives In the public tender, emphasis was placed on low life cycle costs and energy efficiency. Hvide Sande Shipyard therefore already cooperated with...
