After 4750 nautical miles, the minehunting boat "Sulzbach-Rosenberg" arrived in Kiel's naval port on 15 December. Among other things, the crew took part in Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 1 - a total of 82 days without going ashore. "They have proven that the pandemic has no impact on the operational readiness of the navy," emphasised frigate captain Terje Schmitt-Eliassen, commander of the 3rd Mine Countermeasures Squadron. Together with the NATO unit, the crew searched for contaminated sites in the Baltic Sea and was able to neutralise seven mines. Flotilla Admiral Ralf Kuchler, Commander of Operational Flotilla 2 in Wilhelmshaven, visited Bremen to find out about the work of 20 marines who provide support in the area of contact tracing at the health department. Kuchler was interested not only in the tasks to be performed there, but also in the accommodation and care of the soldiers during their time in Bremen. At the end of the one-hour meeting, the admiral emphasised to the soldiers: "I am glad that Bremen quickly recognised how important the work you do here is." He added: "I am proud that you are serving your country in this way." Colonel Hans Peter Dorfmüller, Commander of Bremen State Command, had previously informed Kuchler about the current status of administrative assistance and the processes within the framework of civil-military cooperation in his area.
