Russian submarine awaits launch
The Russian Ministry of Defence reports that the Krasnoyarsk submarine will be launched on 30 July. The ceremony in Severodvinsk will be led by the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov. The Krasnoyarsk is a Jasen M-class boat (Project 885M) and is categorised by the Russians as an underwater missile cruiser. She was the third boat in the Yasen-M class to be laid down in 2014. The submarines, which displace 8600 tonnes and are 130 metres long, are powered by a pressurised water reactor. In addition to ten torpedo tubes with a diameter of 533 millimetres, the armament includes eight vertical launchers for cruise missiles of the Oniks or Kalibr type.
