The Prince was struck by lightning

For the first time, an F-35B Lightning II has landed on the UK's newest aircraft carrier, HMS Prince of Wales. The weather off the south coast of England co-operated and was calm as the jet approached and the ship set a suitable course. "It was a real honour to be the first pilot to land the F-35B on the Prince of Wales," said the pilot and Commodore of 207 Squadron from Marham afterwards. The unmanned flying petrol station

Boeing's MQ-25 T1 drone has refuelled a US Navy fighter jet in flight for the first time. The F/A-18 Super Hornet first approached the renamed tanker to within a few metres to check whether it was in stable flight. The refuelling hose was then extended and the pilot managed to connect his jet to the docking device. After taking on the required amount of fuel, the aircraft separated and both aircraft returned safely to MidAmerica Airport in Macoutah, Illinois, where they had previously taken off. The manoeuvre is significant because it demonstrates that the MQ-25 is not only safe...

The die is cast. The BMVg has decided in favour of the P-8A Poseidon from Boeing to replace the German Navy's ageing P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft. A parliamentary referral is to take place before the summer break in order to avoid a looming capability gap at the last minute. The aim of these measures was to extend the service life of the P-3C until the French-German Maritime Airborne Warfare System (MAWS, scheduled for 2035) comes on stream. With the right decision against modernisation, it was clear that...

RAM for Egypt

The Egyptian Navy will receive up to 168 RIM-116s in the Block 2 variant from Raytheon. The US Department of Defence has now approved a sale under the Foreign Military Sales programme. The contract includes the delivery of Guided Missile Round Packs (GMRPs) and is worth around 113 million dollars. A good quarter of the work will be carried out by RAM-System GmbH in Ottobrunn. The GMRPs are used to transport, store and launch up to eleven of the missiles. RAM offers seeing units a means of self-defence against approaching missiles. The modern FKs have a length of 2.79 metres and carry a good...
