Christening of the third Japanese Mogami frigate

Christening and launching are two important events in the life of a ship. The latest Japanese frigate experienced both together on 22 June Noshiro. After the type ship and the Kumano she will be the third ship in the Mogami-class. It is named after the Noshiro River in the north of the Japanese main island of Honshu.
This frigate is being built by MHI in Nagasaki, while other units in the class are being built by Mitsui in Tamano. With a length of 130 metres, the ships displace around 3900 tonnes. They will be equipped with a 127-millimetre gun and a Mk41 VLS launcher with 16 cells. Eight Mitsubishi Type 17 FKs are also available for engaging sea targets.
